In honor of February and all things “love” – primarily self-love – a few members of the SeeKing HR team penned their thoughts on purpose and the connection between mind, body, and soul…

"Mind, body and soul can be thought as a powerful and never-ending circuit. When connected, a wellness current circulates continuously. If just one aspect is disrupted, the current stops and other facets are left without charge. Our healthy charge then becomes drained, leaving us feeling depleted. There are many things we can do to help us recharge. The most important way to execute the care you need is making a plan. This plan includes making priorities and setting the time aside to do it. It’s a valuable commitment to yourself that not only benefits you,but your loved ones too.

During this committed time, find at least one thing that will nurture and rejuvenate you. Reading a book, taking a walk outside, listening to your favorite music or going for a scenic drive are just a few recommendations that can help reset you back to an optimal wellness charge."

"Our life’s purpose — this is a notion we tend to think about, some more often than others, but nonetheless, a pretty universal thought. Is our purpose pre-determined? Do we make our own purpose in life? Regardless the answer to these questions, how can we make sure we’re living out our daily lives with that purpose in mind? What we sometimes lose track of is how our actions can directly affect the direction of our lives and the intensions we have to set to live with purpose.

Our mind, body and soul work in concert with each other and if one is unsettled, our purpose may be collateral damage. Mental health is so important to keep everything working. If our mental state is in a healthy mind frame, our body and soul will feel that energy and want to continue working towards our goals, thus, keeping us purpose-driven.

In a healthy state of mind, we tend to want our bodies to match what our mind is feeling. Moving the body releases more endorphins, in turn, making our attitude towards life more optimistic. This combination of healthy mind and body will make our soul feel at peace with whatever occurs within the day. With a healthy outlook on life, we can brave any situation with confidence because we are steadfast in our purpose."

"When I think about the mind, body, soul connection, specifically as it relates to employment, I am reminded of the quote “if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.” I am a huge proponent of marrying individual capacity, capability and interest as a means to achieve career success. Having self-awareness and understanding individual strengths can create a strong foundation from which to build a meaningful career. Connecting the brain, behaviors and the heart in a way that makes “work” enjoyable fosters an environment where employees can excel.

Using assessment tools to prepare individuals for college or a career makes so much sense. Focusing on the connection between interests and strengths to maximize performance makes good business sense. If you are looking for meaning, real purpose, why not really commit? Call us and we can share a few success stories with you."
