Today Was A Good Day...

What constitutes a good day at work? What helps you feel accomplished each day and energized and ready to take on the next one? Our HR Project Coordinator, Tanya, gives us her tips for a good day!

Even though we all have our own interpretation of what a good day at work looks like, there are some things that we can do to ensure our workday is a good one.

  • Put your phone down and stay off your social feeds.  With all the information that is available to us, it is very easy to get lost in the cyber world.  While it may be tempting to check your social media feeds, it can be a black hole! You start by reading one article, which then leads to another, and before you know it over an hour has gone by.  It is very easy to lose focus when you’re on your phone, so it’s best to stay off.
  • Take a break.  Allow yourself some time to step away from your desk. Use this time to eat your lunch and relax a little, or take a walk to clear your mind.  When you come back to your desk your brain will be refreshed and rewired.
  • At the end of each day, plan for the next one.  Before five o’clock rolls around, take a few minutes to gather your thoughts and think about what needs to get done tomorrow.  Write down a list of all those things that need to be accomplished and come up with a plan on how you’re going to accomplish them.  The next day, as things are getting done, check them off. There’s nothing like crossing items off your to-do list to help you give yourself that feeling of accomplishment!
  • Smile! One of the most important things to do in order to achieve a good day at work… don’t forget to smile!  It really does make a difference.

Of course, having work that is fulfilling, and being recognized for that work, can be a huge contributor to having an enjoyable day at work. So don’t be afraid to have those honest conversations with your manager, they could just result in a GREAT day!
